Undertaking Community Service
What work will I do?
Community Service involves various tasks, and you may work in a group or individually. Your placement will be assigned by the Community Service Team.
After sentencing, they will assess whether you will join a supervised work party or an individual placement, considering your skills. Individual placements can include roles in charity shops or community projects. Working hours will vary depending on the needs of the organisation.
What is expected of me?
To complete your Community Service Order, you must:
- avoid re-offending
- attend at the specified time and place
- inform the Community Service Team of any changes in your circumstances
- complete all hours ordered by the Court
- get permission to leave Jersey from the Community Service Team
- follow the Community Service scheme's rules
- start work soon after your Order is given
- complete your order as required by the Community Service Team
- work at least 5 hours per week
Rules for Community Service
While on Community Service, you must:
- Follow all work instructions
- not miss work without permission
- provide a medical certificate within two working days if unwell
- avoid attending under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- refrain from violent or abusive behaviour
- avoid using offensive language
- not use a mobile phone
- follow Health and Safety guidelines
Additional rules may apply based on your work placement, and these will be explained to you during your first meeting.
Failure to comply or cooperate with any rule may lead to being sent back to Court for breaching your Community Service terms. if you break your Community Service rules.
If there has been a significant change in an offender’s circumstances, the Order can be returned to Court for a review.
Completion of the Order
Once you satisfactorily complete all assigned hours, the Chief Probation Officer will discharge your Order.
