Dependent Registry Status and Intellectual Property Legislation
Dependent Registry Status
The Jersey Patents, Trade Marks and Designs Registries are dependent Registries. This means that registration of any intellectual property right on the Island is dependent upon registration first being obtained in the United Kingdom.
UK certificate required
An application made under the Trade Marks (Jersey) Law 2000, the Patents (Jersey) Law 1957 or the Registered Designs (Jersey) Law 1957 must be accompanied by a certified copy of the UK registration.
Address for service
Applicants under the Trade Marks (Jersey) Law 2000, the Patents (Jersey) Law 1957 or the Registered Designs (Jersey) Law 1957 do not need to be resident in Jersey, but must have an address for service in Jersey.
